Leadership & Capability building
The context
Our client is a central PSU organization and one of India’s largest power companies. It was listed as one of the Top 20 companies in Best Place to Work in India in 2011 by Great Places to Work Institute, India Chapter. The organization is committed to learning & development, building capability of its people and creating employee friendly HR policies and practices.
The organization has a well defined Leadership Development Framework instituted for its Middle and Senior Management levels. In light of this, they sought expertise from Cerebrus to assess competencies and potential of the employees at the DGM level through Assessment Centres.
Our approach:
We commenced by understanding the existing competency framework applicable to the DGM level from the management and HR team. In accordance with this, we customized the competencies for the assessment process and designed assessment tools, center collaterals and process templates.
The Assessment Development Centers covered 264 employees over 21 centers, spread over a period of 7 months. The assessment of participants was done on the 10 leadership competencies using 7 assessment tools. The entire exercise was positioned as an assessment and learning center where participants has an opportunity to learn and become self aware.
Through the entire process, we ensured high validity and quality of the assessments. This was done through international and customized validated tools, observations done by trained assessors and standardization of all templates and processes.
The outcome
Post the centres, participants were provided with structured feedback on development and were supported to create an actionable Individual Development Plan (IDP). As a follow up, Cerebrus supported in hand holding the participants in implementing the IDP and also conducted a one day IDP Review workshop for the participants covered in the centers. We also designed and conducted two Development Workshops for all participants as a part of the developmental initiatives.
The input from the Assessment Development Centers was used for taking key decisions on placement and progression of the participants and also to identify what developmental support the participants would need to grow in the organization.
